Their is an excellent Glaswegian rock band that was evidently feeling some angst at the state of the modern world when they settled on the name, We Were Promised Jetpacks, or maybe they just thought it sounded excellent.  It is an interesting consideration though. In a world of exponential technoligcal growth it is very easy to look at the projections of the world of the future and feel cheated....
